This design has been in the works for the past year and I'm pleased to offer if here for your consideration. I've been working on this new guitar in between commissions and am really excited that my efforts have come to fruition in an instrument with a traditional tone but with an increase in projection, depth and sustain.

This instrument combines elements that I'm most fond of in several different styles of guitars. The biggest departure for me is the inclusion of an arched braceless back and laminated sides ala the Australian school. Unlike the Australian designs however, I have kept my back and sides thin and free to vibrate. I believe that it's important to have the back and sides contribute to the timbre of the guitar. This creates an instrument with rich overtones. I've used some high tech materials and techniques to keep the back and sides thin, but quite strong. Stability will not be an issue. The increased area inside the box, due to the arch, creates a really attractive "air" around the notes.

The soundboard construction is based on my studies with Jose Romanillos, but I've made a few modifications. Most notable are the struts that have a very thin lamination of carbon fiber between spruce. The small amount of carbon fiber adds much strength, but due to the fact that most of the material is still wood one still hears a traditional sounding instrument. If I didn't tell you it was there, you wouldn't even know. There is no artifice brought on by the carbon fiber whatsoever. This instrument sounds like a very traditional guitar reminiscent of a Romanillos or a Torres with more projection and a bit of natural reverb added.

This design was created with the recitalist in mind. The guitar projects quite well, but does not sacrifice tone in the least. The trebles are clear, warm and lyrical. The basses are rich and smooth with just the right amount of snap. Separation is excellent. This guitar is suitable for all types of music from Bach to Brouwer.
