Many Smallmans have tone that is somewhat expansive and oad. This particular Smallman has very tight, creamy and full tone and at the same time being particularly sweet and singing. The sustain is incredible but maintains clear separation of the different strings. The guitar is powerful and projection of the tone remains concentrated even when played loud. It has a potential for wide dynamic range which is easily controllable (unlike the earlier ones which were difficult to achieve softness). Having compared with other Smallmans, the tone quality of this guitar is especially pure and ringing, and does not have any extraneous noise (e.g. fingernails or finger plucking noise) whilst being very responsive to the right hand.
