Description: Acoustic Guitar - FS:1981 Manuel Contreras Double Top

For Sale: 1981 Manuel Conteras Double Top Classical Guitar

This hand-built guitar has Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, with a cedar top. The guitar is in very good to excellent condition. There is absolutely no structural damage or flaws. There are no cracks, splits, or warping. This 22 year old guitar is in excellent condition for its age. The finish is very clean with no worn down spots.

This guitar has been taken care of very well. The guitar was built in 1981 in Madrid, Spain at his shop at 80 Calle Mayor. This guitar was built by Manuel Contreras I. Contreras died in 1994, and his work is continued by his son, Manuel Contreras II. Junior's double top guitars sell for over $7,000USD. This is a true double top guitar. The guitar has a second "top" supported inside of the guitar, in front of the back of the guitar. This allows both tops to resonate, and subsequently, creates a very loud and resonating sound. This guitar has one of the largest dynamic ranges I have heard, with the bass very clear and powerful (without being boomy), and the treble clear and tight. The volume on this guitar is spectacular. The tone is very well balanced and clear.

The playability of this guitar is excellent. Action height is medium for a classical guitar. The neck is straight and there is no buzzing or rattling. All of the frets are in excellent condition. Guitar keeps its tune very well. Nut and bridge are solid with no significant signs of wear. Guitar is in great shape and is made to be played.

Scale length is 655 mm
Nut width is 2 in.
E-to-E width is 1 11/16 in.
String spacing at nut is 11/32 in.
String spacing at saddle is 7/16 in.
Neck depth at 1st fret is 3/4 in.
Neck depth at 9th fret is 27/32 in.

External source quote: "The Contreras 1a "Double Top" has two backs, one of spruce, the other of Brazilian rosewood, one suspended below the other (The word `tapa` in Spanish means `layer`, therefore the name Double Top is a bit of a misnomer). This design is one of Contreras` most successful due to the improved tone and better projection. The sound is heavy and very focused, with immediate response and excellent volume. The Brazilian rosewood back and sides are of the highest quality."

The guitar comes with a double arched case, 6 latches, 1 lockable latch. The case is very strong and in excellent condition. I have plenty of pictures of this guitar available. Serious buyers can contact me through e-mail to discuss any questions, comments, and to see more pictures.

I also have MP3's available of this guitar being played.
