Description: Cello - 4/4 Cello, Markneukirchen c1885
German full sized antique violincello ("cello") labelled "Francoises Cello Modell Stradivarius von der Vongtlandischen Musicinstrumenten-Fabrik Herman Dolling jr., Markneukirchen i.S."
Believed to date from around 1885.
Purchased by me from Milner and Hallows, Richmond , North Yorkshire, UK, and has been owned by me for the past decade.
The instrument is of heavy construction, with box type heads (rearward facing metal screws as opposed to horizontally opposed pegs) requiring cosmetic restoration to the spike and box heads, which are both still fully functional. The bridge has lost its heart, and this may require replacing at some point. The value of the total work required has been estimated at approximately £500. The cello is still playable, however.
13 1/2 inches / 34 cm between the shoulders of the cello
17 inches / 43 cm between the hips of the cello
30 inches / 75 cm down the back vertically
10 1/2 inches / 26 cm neck, vertically
8 inch / 20 cm head, vertically.
Comes with bow, fibreglass hard case, non-slip spike holder, 4 fine adjusters, mute, and a bedded in block of rosin (!).
The price reflects the value of the restoration work required (it was valued in this condition), but I state again that it is perfectly playable as is - the work required is cosmetic. Further details can be provided if required.
Would make an ideal total package for a player graduating to a better instrument, or a relatively new player looking for a first full-sized cello.
Please contact me if you require any further details or photos.
As this is a heavy, valuable, fragile item, carriage is likely to be expensive: buyer can arrange to collect or I may deliver at cost. This would be thrashed out after the close of the sale.
