Tight-grain flamed maple back and ribs. Carved back; rising sun motif at button; converted from three to four strings; medium grain spruce top; original neck and scroll.
This is the rare carved back model.
A similar instrument was for sale several years ago at Kolstein for $29,000. A similar instrument, but more common flat-back model, is for sale now at Gallery Strings in the UK for approximately 37,000USD.
Signed �Paul Claudot� on under side of top table. Stamp reading �Paul Claudot� that can be seen where a paper label would appear.
Condition is noted as Very Good according to AES Fine Instruments, who appraised the instrument in March of 2002 at $26,000. The current condition of the instrument is the same now as it was in 2002. Arnold Snitzer, member of the International Society of Bassists, Guild of American Luthiers, and Violin Society of America did the appraisal.
