Description: French Horn - VERY RARE F FRENCH HORN BESSON ASCENDING VALVE 1895
This is what is written on the bell:
« Système Prototype
96 rue d’Angouleme
And stamped on the 2d valve:
"F. Besson breveté
The serial number indicate that it xas made around 1890/95.
Good general state: some bumps, all slides and valves move freely.
This french horn play very well! Pitch in F.
There is a water key on the leapipe with a name:
“G. Guerin breveté S.G.D.G Paris”
I think it’s a repair man.
There is a tricolour cord in the place of the left hand. I didn’t look at below. Maybe this horn was played in a french military band?
Sold without case and mouthpiece.
The 3d valve is ascending. This system was very much used in France in the 19th century. That means that without touching at the valve, the air passes in the 3rd slide, and when wa presses the valve, the air doesn’t pass. We shortens the overall length what makes assemble the sound. That explains its name of “ascending system”.
