This fully restored Conn C Melody is in excellent condition. The serial no. 158xxx traces this horn to 1925. It has the satin silver finish which is about 99% intact, and the gold wash bell which also looks great. . This horn has all the ‘Chu’ features including rolled tone holes, microtuner neck, sculpted palm keys, and the ‘nail file’ G# key. It comes with the original Conn case. When I purchased the horn in 2007, it had the original white pads and much tarnish. It appeared that the horn was in storage for decades. It has no dents or dings. It is in near mint condition. The only place where the silver has worn is a small spot on the thumbrest. There are no resolders

The sax was restored by Shen-Valley Band Instrument of Harrisonburg VA. In my 40 + years of playing woodwinds, these are the finest technicians I have found. The horn was completely dismantled and cleaned in the ultrasonic cleaner. This method removes all tarnish without removing any of the silver or gold. [as polishing and buffing does] the horn was then repadded with Selmer style domed resonators. It also has new cork and felt.

I am offering this horn without a mouthpiece. There are modern mouthpieces available from Runyon and Beechler. I can provide these companies URLs. I’ve had some success using a long shank alto mouthpiece. I’ve heard other people use a short shank tenor mouthpiece.
The neck cork is now set up for the Runyon mouthpiece, but can easily be sanded down to accommodate the traditional C melody mouthpieces.

The horn is now in excellent playing condition. The work was done in 02/08 and I have been playing it since to break it in. The horn has been back to the shop for the post break-in adjustment. This service is provided by Shen-Valley Band as part of the restoration process. This insures that all the pads have seated properly and that the horn is in top playing condition.
