Description: Saxophone - Selmer SuperAction 80 Series II Tenor Saxophone
Serial number 401XXX dates it to 1986. Lacquer is 90% intact and original. Tenor is in very good condition, and plays beautifully!
I bought the tenor in 1995, as a music major needing another horn. I used it extensively throughout the next 9 years, until I decided to commit my time exclusively to alto (and to a career outside of music). Since I stopped playing the tenor regularly, I have kept it in its case, taking it out once a month to play and clean.
Lacquer-wear will be found in the normal places, such as the around the strap-ring (there when I purchased it in 1995), Eb/C pinky keys, side Bb/C/E keys, palm keys (note: only on finger-levers, NOT on pad cups) minor scratches on the bell and body. Lacquer on the neck was in poor shape when I first purchased horn, and I left it alone (no structural defects!) until late 2004, when my sax technician overhauled it (the neck ONLY!). I requested only one coat of lacquer in order to acheive the best sound from it, and is aging very nicely.
The only body issue is seen in the pictures: the thumb hook was pushed into the body when it fell off of the stand. To repair it, the thumb hook was removed, the dent carefully rolled out, thumb hook was buffed and resoldered, and the lacquer was touched up around the thumb hook. I included this spot in one of the pictures.
As for the sound, I prefer the sound of this tenor to ANY other SuperAction 80 Series II. That's why I bought it, of course! I would suggest this horn for any player who wants a bright sound and effortless altissimo. I had the forked-F adjusted to allow the third-octave G to pop out effortlessly.
Included is a Protec contoured case with what I like to call a "neck pillow", to store the neck inside the bell with ultimate protection and neck-comfort, with 1" of foam padding on each side (see pics), and one complete set of new Selmer-Paris tenor sax pads, which were to be used when I eventually wore out the current pads. Well, they are still in great shape, so this new set of pads will be yours to use when the time comes.
