Description: Saxophone - Vintage Gretsch by Martin C-Tenor Saxophone, good playing condition
This Gretsch is considered a stencil saxophone. This means, it was made by one of the 4 major saxophone manufacturers, for the Gretsch. Judging from the soldered and slighly barrel shaped tone holes, and curved serial number, this is mostly likely a sax by Martin.
It has old lacquer, at about 80%. It has darkened over the years to a dark honey color. Imperfections to the finish are difficult to see at a distance, up close, one can see where the lacquer is worn, slight pitting, and a very minor dent or two.
Overall, it is in very good condition for its age. It just had a major cleaning, adjustments, cork, felt and re-pad with Selmer style large plastic dome resonator pads. It comes with original C-melody mouthpiece, but the mouthpiece is in fair to poor condition, requiring a refacing. However, a standard tenor mouthpiece also fits, and will give you a bigger, brighter sound than the original mouthpiece. Most modern Bb tenor sax mouthpieces 4" long and under, can be used and tuned on this sax.
It has been leak tested, there are no leaks, and all notes play easily and reasonably in tune.
