Description: Viola for sale - Copy of G.P Maggini's 1609 Contralto Viola
There are no pictures available for this viola
This viola (made by Snow Violins) is a fine replica of Gianno Paolo Maggini's 1609 Contralto Viola. The viola is "16inches in body length. The lower bout is rather wide, which explains the instrument's super deep and big powerful sound. It is currently set-up with Evah Pirazzi strings for the C,G,& D. The 'A' string is a Larson. The top of the instrument is made of fine vertical grain spruce. The back is of a highly flamed single piece of maple, with matching ribs, neck, & scroll. The tail piece and pegs are matching with a golden diamond inlaid on each individual peg, including the tail piece. Being made to replicate a Maggini, this viola was made with double purfling, and those one-of-a-kind elongated Maggini F-Holes! There is one flaw in the instrument, and that is that some point it developed a rather superficial hairline crack along the back. However, before I even bought the instrument, it was like that and has been professionally patched up so it will not go entirely through. Other than that, the instrument is in MINT CONDITION and is ready to be professionally played. Viola was bought from Snow Violins for $3,700. The reason I am selling it, is because I need the money from this instrument to get my other $8,000 viola fixed.. Please call me if you are interested in this Viola, it truly is a phenomenal instrument!
