A 59.5 g silver mounted violin bow by FN Voirin (c. 1860) comes with a photo certificate from Kenneth Warren, Chicago. Despite being 59.5g, the balance is good. The stick is steady and even. Being slightly stiffer relatively to other Voirins, but still softer than a Sartory, the bow is easy to control. This is not your flexible whippy Voirin. This is a Voirin that'll dig through anything. When you dig in, you will feel like you are milking everything ounce juice out of your violin. When you play it softly, the colouration comes dramatically out of the f-holes.Tone from this bow sings. It is also powerful, focused but neutral. It won't make your instrument darker or brighter; the tone stays true to the instrument.
If you are a fan of an early Sartory (pre 1900), a stiffer Lamy, or just an exceptional Voirin, I encourage you to try this bow.
The stick is dark brown with a beautiful knot 3 inches from the head. The wood and varnish is quite "transparent". Not only it's an eye candy, it's a serious playing tool.
Enjoy!
