I am a former musician with a quality violin for sale. It has had a professional Fair Market Appraisal through Shar Fine Instruments in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The back is of one piece of maple, cut on the quarter, of broad width flame descending from the bass to the treble side. The ribs and scroll are of similar maple. The top is of two pieces of spruce cut on the quarter, of fine width grain widening slightly at the flanks. The varnish is amber-brown in color.
Back length: 35.7 cm
UB: 16.5 cm
MB: 12.0 cm
LB: 20.5 cm
This interesting older violin has been in my posession for over 10 years and has been well taken care of and played frequently. It is in restored condition and plays beautifully with charm and character. This violin is definitely for somone looking for a unique instrument. It was used on a university level and never failed to perform to the standards expected of it.
The actual appraisal price is $1000 above my asking price. Due to some minor cosmetic repairs you may want, I am lowering the price. Included in the lowered price are a used violin case in good condition, a good bow with no needed repair except usual maintenance (rehair) and another spare bow in less than good condition.
The good bow's shaft is of red-brown pernambuco wood, round in shape, and changing to octagonal at the butt end and stamped "Guy Jeandel". The head is fitted with a bone plate. The frog is of ebony and nickel with a Parisian eye at each of the faces. The butt is capped in nickel. Weight: 62.4 grams.
