This is simply a stunning violin package for a professional or professional wannabe! I played the violin and bow for about a year as it was my favourite combination from the Virtuoso Strings Shop (I am a professional violinist myself , and my husband and I own Virtuoso Strings). The violin is a top grade model made from European spruce/maple by Ming-Jiang Zhu and his senior workshop technician .Virtuoso Strings rebranded it as an Oistrakh, as at the time we didnt realise how sought after Ming-Jiang Zhu violins were. The violin has a gorgeous silky smooth tone which has fantastic projection. In fact, the instrument is so smooth under the ear it is sometimes a surprise how effortlessly it projects. I have tried a number of different strings and find that Pirastro Wondertone Solo with a Thomastik Titanium E work best for me. I prefer the fairly light, top grade, gold mounted pernambuco bow included in this package. The bow is unbranded as it came straight from the workshop. The violin responds best to a very sensitive & reasonably delicate approach. When played well it has a thousand different colours and nuances to the tone. It is very easily played in the sense that it responds immediately to a light touch of the bow. The violin and bow are complemented by an authentic Italian-made Musafia case. Musafia cases have an exceptional reputation as some of the safest and highest quality cases on the market. The case is fairly slim and light Momentum model. I challenge anyone to find a better professional package for the same price. Many of my colleagues have instruments worth three times as much that simply arent as impressive tonally.
