Violin, Amati Baroque, 14" body, Carla Shapreau, 1978, very nice condition, plays very nicely, hard case. Here is Carla Shapreau's description: The outline comes from plate 10 of Boydens Hill Collection. The original is made by Andrea Amati, Cremona 1564, and made for Charles IX. Since this violin is not full size and has a modern neck, I enlarged the pattern and replaced the neck with the appropriate style (lower projection, wedge for angle, not neck). The inlay pattern is more in keeping with the next plate 11, made by Amati for Charles IX. This has a light fingerboard and tailpiece with ebony inlay. The body length of your violin is 14". The upper bouts 16.2 cm, the waist 10.7 cm, lower bouts 20.8 cm. The string length is 32 cm. The pegs, endbutton, tailpiece and fingerboard are all of boxwood with ebony trim and inlay. The back is 2-piece maple with descending flame. The table, one-piece spruce. The violin is equipped with a small bass bar and sound post typical of this period. Her current instruments sell for $20,000 to $25,000.
