Description: Violin - GUARNERI DEL GESU, 1742
There are no pictures available for this violin
A very fine classical violin by Guarneri Del Gesu, the original label dated 1742. The varnish is of a fiery orange brown color showing lots of cracquelure, clots and runs due to uneven application. A recent undertaking resulted in the successful removal of the heavy coating of rosin from the varnish, in the central zone of the top plate. This magnificent instrument is in near perfect condition, without a crack. Rich tone, balanced across the strings, with great carrying power.
It was for many years in the singular possession of Ms. Maria Nita, of Craiova, Romania; whom during her lifetime became well known as a highly accomplished amateur violinist in her native country. According to oral family history Ms. Nita purchased this violin from a famous collector in Italy, who was forced to sell it after WWII ended due to financial constraints.
I purchased this instrument directly from her son, Maestro Gabriel Florin-Nita, soloist with the small but powerful Olthenia Filarmonica, Craiova, Romania.
This violin is a near bench mate to the Guarneri Del Gesu which brought fame and fortune to Nicolo Paganani, "Il Cannone". Please view the montage. POA.
